2×2 rib stitch is very elastic, great for sleeve bottoms, necklines and pieces that needs to stretch. It’s recommended that you choose ribbed cast on for this stitch (such as long tail cast on for rib stitch) to achieve the best result.
(Flat knitting)
Start by casting on a multiple of 2 stitches (or a multiple of 4 stitches)
Row 1 (RS): knit two stitches, bring the yarn to the front, then purl two stitches, repeat that across.
Row 2 (WS): Knit the knits and purl the purls as you see them. (Please read this post for a detailed explanation)
Repeat Row 1 and Row 2 to desired length.
(Circular knitting)
Start by casting on a multiple of 4 stitches.
Round 1: (K2, P2) repeat that across
Repeat Round 1 to desired length.
Watch to Learn
Watch this video to learn how to knit 2×2 rib stitch, to simplify the process, I am using a basic long tail cast on in the video, which is OK but is not the best option for ribbed stitch.
