
Checkerboard garter stitch combines stockinette blocks with garter blocks together to create a textured fabric. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to knit a 5×5 garter checkerboard.
(Flat knitting)
Cast on a multiple of 10 stitches (or 5 sts+5)
Row 1 (RS): (k5, p5) repeat to end
Row 2 (WS): purl
Row 3 (RS): repeat Row 1
Row 4 (WS): repeat Row 2
Row 5 (RS): repeat Row 1
Row 6 (WS): (p5, k5) repeat to end
Row 7 (RS): knit
Row 8 (WS): repeat Row 6
Row 9 (RS): repeat Row 7
Row 10 (WS): repeat Row 6
Repeat Row 1-10 to desired length
(Circular knitting)
Cast on a multiple of 10 stitches (or 5 sts+5)
Rnd 1 (RS): (k5, p5) repeat to end
Rnd 2 (RS): knit
Rnd 3 (RS): repeat Rnd 1
Rnd 4 (RS): repeat Rnd 2
Rnd 5 (RS): repeat Rnd 1
Rnd 6 (RS): (p5, k5) repeat to end
Rnd 7 (RS): knit
Rnd 8 (RS): repeat Rnd 6
Rnd 9 (RS): repeat Rnd 7
Rnd 10 (RS): repeat Rnd 6
